I first started researching the McNairn family back in the 1970's and at that time Robert McNairn of Waterdown was very helpful giving me information that he and his brother and father had all researched - Since then I have verified some things myself on Microfilms received some more info from Norman McNairn and shared info back and forth with Cheryl Grice from Indiana who has done a great deal of research on the descendants of John McNairn b 1745 as she is one.  I have also had a great deal of help and sharing of information with various friends and family that I have met on the internet in my search for genealogy.  I want to share this info with people but if you use this I would like you to give credit to those who have researched the information.

Second Generation

2. Alexander MCNAIRN (Alexander) was born in 1672. He died1 on 22 Mar 1742 in Barskeoch, Penninghame, Wigtownshire, SCO.

Alexander married Helen M'KEAND on 6 Dec 1698 in Narine, Sco. Helen was born in 1672. She died on 9 Apr 1742 in Barskeoch, Sco.

They had the following children:

3 M i. John MCNAIRN was christened2 on 31 Aug 1701 in Wigtown, Penninghame Parish, Sco. He died before 1713.

I assume this John died young as another John was baptized to Alexander and Helen in 1713

4 M ii. James MCNAIRN was christened3 on 1 Aug 1703 in Wigtown, Penninghame Parish, Sco.

I found a James that married a Margaret McGill in the OPR but I have not established that it is this James.

James married Margaret MCGILL on 10 Apr 1723.

+ 5 M iii. William MCNAIRN was born in 1704. He died on 3 Nov 1769.

6 F iv. Jonet MCNAIRN was christened4 on 22 Apr 1707 in Wigtown, Penninghame Parish, Sco.

I found a Janet in the OPR that married a William Arnote on 20 Nov 1735 - have not established this is the correct (with a name variation) Jonet. If this is the correct marriage there is a child of this marriage William who was christened Aug 1, 1736 according to the OPR transcription on the Wigtownshire pages.

Jonet married William ARNOTE on 20 Nov 1735.

7 F v. Mary MCNAIRN was christened5 on 20 Feb 1709 in Penninghame, Wigtown, Sco.

According to the Old Parochial Records of Scotland - There is a Mary who married a Thomas Sheiland on the 22 April 1731 and a Mary (the same or different) married a John McKie on Oct 17, 1735 If this is the correct Mary who married Thomas Sheiland according to the OPR transcription on the Wigtowshire page there were three children, John christened on Feb 6, 1732; Nicolas, christened Apr 7, 1733 and Janet, christened Jan 13, 1736.   If this Mary married John McKie - there are no children on the OPR transcription on the Wigtownshire pages.

Mary married Thomas Sheiland OR JOHN MCKIE - 16 Oct 1735.

8 M vi. Alexander MCNAIRN was christened6 on 8 Apr 1711 in Penninghame, Wigtown, Sco.

I found an Alexander that married Jean McCornock but have not established that it is this Alexander.

Alexander married Jean MCCORNOCK on 5 Nov 1733.

9 F vii. Jean or Joan MCNAIRN was christened7 on 11 Jan 1713 in Wigtown, Penninghame Parish, Sco.

This marriage to McQuhie may not be correct as I would think Jean may have been a little old to be marrying. (32)  When I looked at the OPR - it appeared to me that the name is Joan. It appears as Jean in the IGI and in the fiche index for the OPR.

Jean married Ougherie MCQUHIE on 14 Feb 1745.

10 M viii. John MCNAIRN was christened8 on 30 Aug 1713 in Penninghame Parish, Sco.

Presumably the first John in this family died before 1713 as I did find two Johns baptized for Alexander and Helen in the OPR.

John married Elisabeth FORSYTH on 23 Aug 1739.

+ 11 M ix. MCNAIRN was born in 1701/1713.

This is not a separate son....but one of the above presumably.  This sets up the connection for a family that is now in England.
