McNairns in Mitchell Village, Logan Twp,
Perth County, Ontario, Canada

This is info I collected and I have made some presumptions that I have noted - I have not included all the sources here but I do have my transcripts of each census, other documents plus photos of the gravestones.  I have to check more things out and will update this page as I do.

John McNairn, Born June 18, 1845, Scotland, Emigrated to Canada - in 1862 or 1864, or 1869 - I think 1869. Possibly died 21 Dec 1910.

John Married Mary Jane ? Born Sept. 9, 1849, England,   Emigrated to Canada 1851 or 1857. John and Mary Jane were married presumably between 1871 and 1876.  There is a Mary McNairn died Nov 21, 1902 (I think this is either this Mary or the daughter Mary Louisa)

John and Mary had two children

i. David James McNairn. Born April 24 or 26, 1876 in Logan Twp, Perth County, Ontario - died in 1935 buried at Knox Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Mitchell, Ontario. David married Elizabeth Scoins who was born 1879 and died 1969 also buried at Knox Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Mitchell, Ontario

ii. Mary Louisa McNairn. Born March 10, 1879 in Ontario.

John is listed as a blacksmith in the 1871 census with no family. He is not listed in the Mitchell section of the Perth County Directory at that time. According to the history book of Logan called Legacy of Logan 1850-2000 John purchased the east ½ (50 Acres) of Lot 1 Concession 3 of Logan Township in 1876. In the 1881 census and subsequent census he is listed as a farmer with a wife and two children. However in the 1901 census David is not listed in Logan twp at all. In 1912 the property at Lot 1 Conc. 3 changed hands to an Elizabeth C. McNairn - I am guessing this may be David’s wife and that she received ownership in David’s name and perhaps temporary absence because John had perhaps died and perhaps Mary Jane was also already dead.

Other McNairns buried in the Knox Presbyterian Cemetery. I assume these are all family I just have to figure out how.

Doris Ruth McNairn 1923-1943 - daughter of Leslie James McNairn and Margaret Reeves.
