The Snap Inn, Knowe
Village, Scotland. This is a photo of the Snap Inn, at Knowe Village, Scotland. Taken from the book "Penninghame - The Story of a Parish" by Joan Rogerson. The
inn was known as the Snap hence the alternative name for the village until recently. This
odd name was due to the idiosyncratic Scottish laws applied to the sale of alcohol which
maintained that none could be consumed except to accompany food. To circumvent this
inconvenience, the landlady made large quantities of ginger biscuits (snaps) which were
duly handed out with the glasses. |
